Hans Wigzell has resigned as chairman of Karolinska Institute’s investment firm after serving 14 years on the board of directors.
Prof Hans Wigzell, chairman of Karolinska Development, the investment firm set up by Karolinska Institute, resigned yesterday for personal reasons.
The board of directors has launched a search for a successor to Wigzell.
Wigzell held the position of chairman twice since he joined the board in 2006. His first stint lasted from 2006 to 2013, before he returned to the role in 2018.
Karolinska Development credited Wigzell’s scientific know-how and international connections as a key factor in the firm’s growth.
Before joining Karolinska Development, Wigzell was president of Karolinska Institute from 1995 to 2003 and general director of the National Bacteriological Laboratory in Stockholm from 1987 to 1993.
He is a professor emeritus in immunology at the institute and was appointed chief scientific adviser to the prime minister of Sweden in 1999.
His career has also included serving as chairman of the Nobel Prize committee and healthcare investment firm Rhenman and Partners Asset Management.
