University of Utah has set up a new office in a bid to strategise its commercialisation links to industry and government stakeholders.

University of Utah has formed a new office tasked with driving the institution’s economic engagement with innovation stakeholders.
Partners for Innovation, Ventures, Outreach and Technology (Pivot) Center will act as the university’s centralised office for engaging stakeholders such as industry and government to ensure its tech transfer meets their needs.
The hub is the result of a year-long evaluation of University of Utah’s innovation ecosystem, including a survey of 7,000 faculty members.
Pivot will work alongside the university’s existing tech transfer office, the Center for Technology and Venture Commercialisation (TVC).
Keith Marmer, chief innovation and economic engagement officer at University of Utah, is responsible for leading the initiative.
He was previously associate vice-president for TVC and corporate partnerships, having joined University of Utah in 2016.
Andrew Weyrich, vice-president for research at University of Utah, said: “As the university continues to grow its research platform, having the Pivot Center will allow our innovative researchers engage directly and effectively with our partners.”
