NovaUCD-based patient lingerie manufacturer Theya Healthcare has been backed by investors including Enterprise Ireland as it prepares for expansion in the US.

Theya Healthcare, an Ireland-based healthcare garments manufacturer headquartered at University College Dublin’s entrepreneurship hub, Nova UCD, attracted €665,000 ($750,000) yesterday in a round backed by government-owned enterprise support agency Enterprise Ireland. The round also included unnamed angel investors. Founded in 2013, Theya Healthcare designs lingerie for patients undergoing radiotherapy and customers recovering from operations such as breast cancer or cosmetic surgery. The garment fabric contains a customised bamboo with anti-bacterial and air-porous qualities, providing functionality alongside a design form that offers comfort and a feminine aesthetic. Theya currently distributes its garments in Ireland, the UK, mainland Europe, Australia, Canada, South Africa and the US. The capital will help drive further US expansion, building on Theya’s distribution launch on supermarket chain Walmart’s e-commerce outlet later in April 2019. Theya Healthcare will recruit four additional sales and marketing professionals to support the expansion, and has also entered a partnership with healthcare-focused sustainable products public benefit corporation Greenhealth Exchange to supply 11 US healthcare systems on a preferred basis. Theya Healthcare previously secured private-sector funding from undisclosed backers at an unspecified date, according to the company’s website, and has also received capital through Enterprise Ireland’s High Potential Start-Up initiative.
