David Snow, director of University of Arkansas Technology Ventures, has been called upon to lead the Office of Economic Development in an interim capacity.

University of Arkansas has named David Snow, director of its tech transfer office, University of Arkansas Technology Ventures, as interim vice-chancellor for economic development.
Snow steps into the role following last week’s resignation of Stacy Leeds to focus on writing projects.  He will be tasked with deploying innovative university research while developing its talent and engaging the wider community.
Leeds founded the Office of Economic Development and is credited with steering the unit to record numbers of invention disclosures. She will continue with Arkansas as dean emeritus and professor of law.
Snow became director of University of Arkansas Technology Ventures in October 2019 to succeed Bob Beitle, who had held the position on a caretaker basis.  The TTO reports to the Office of Economic Development.
Snow came to Arkansas from Texas Tech University’s Office of Research Commercialisation, where he became IP associate director in 2014 before a promotion to senior managing director the following year.
His other career highlights include a spell at the helm of tech and IP asset management consultancy Scientific Liaisons from 2011 until 2016.
Snow was also a research scientist with the Institute of Environmental and Human Health from 2013 until 2014, and with genetic sequencing and bioinformatics services provider Molecular Research from 2012 until 2013.
Joe Steinmetz, chancellor of University of Arkansas, said: “I would like to thank David for stepping up to serve in this vital role.
“He brings great expertise and experience to the university’s efforts to commercialise its research and expand its positive impact on the Arkansas economy. I look forward to seeing how he builds on the strong foundation Stacy has put in place.”
