UPMC Enterprises has participated in a $20m series A round for healthcare data management company Smile CDR.

Smile CDR, a US-based healthcare data storage and integration company, has completed a $20m series A round backed by UPMC Enterprises, the innovation and commercialisation arm of health system UPMC.
Family office 30 North Group led the round. UPMC is closely affiliated with University of Pittsburgh Schools of the Health Sciences.
Smile CDR operates a data and integration platform that includes a clinical data repository, built on an international standard that facilitates transferring and sharing data between healthcare providers.
Brent Burns, executive vice-president at UPMC Enterprises, said: “The digitisation and interoperability of healthcare are absolutely necessary to be able to provide high-quality care to patients and members, and Smile CDR has demonstrated validity and success in the digital quality space with one of our portfolio companies, Astrata.”
