NC State spinout Phononic has added $50m to its coffers thanks to a consortium led by Goldman Sachs.

Phononic, a US-based solid-state cooling and heating technology developer spun out of North Carolina State University, has raised $50m in a funding round has led by investment bank Goldman Sachs’ Asset Management subsidiary.
Temasek, Franklin Templeton, Venrock, Oak Investment Partners and other, unnamed existing backers also took part.
Founded in 2008, Phononic has developed solid state semiconductor cooling technology that is being used in areas such as fibre optics, cold chain logistics and climate control.
