MSU’s Student Venture Capital Fund will invest up to $50,000 in university-linked businesses with the administrative aid of MSU students taking the entrepreneurial finance course.

Michigan State University (MSU) has launched a venture capital fund of undisclosed size as a partnership between its investment subsidiary Red Cedar Ventures and entrepreneurship division Center for Venture Capital, Private Equity and Entrepreneurial Finance (CVCPEEF).
The Student Venture Capital Fund will be directly funded by Red Cedar Ventures to back startups from MSU’s ecosystem with cheques of up to $50,000.
MSU’s entrepreneurial finance students will be encouraged to put their education into practice by conducting assessments and due diligence for the vehicle on MSU-linked businesses looking for capital.
Student Venture Capital Fund’s deal pipeline includes resident businesses in MSU incubator the Hatch, a three-stage milestone-orientated program open to businesses led by MSU students.
Students working for the fund are currently evaluating more than 20 startup applications, some of which featured in the university’s Burgess New Venture Challenge student entrepreneurship competition.
