Liverpool's health sciences academic assessment software spinout has been bought by exam platform ExamSoft, which will augment and integrate its services.

Liftupp, a UK-based academic assessment software developer spun out of University of Liverpool, has been acquired by student examination platform ExamSoft for an undisclosed sum. Founded in 2015, Liftupp offers educational assessment tools intended to build a holistic picture of a student’s performance. The software caters to health sciences including dentistry, medicine and veterinary practice, as well as the so-called “allied health” group of professions, which encompass a number of specialisms and technical roles. Experts from the University of Liverpool Dental School developed the original software in 2009, but the tools were adapted for additional markets in collaboration with the university’s clinical teams following Liftupp’s establishment. With the acquisition, ExamSoft intends to further enhance Liftupp’s services while combining them with its own examination platform, currently used by more than 1,500 educational programs, in a bid to broaden Liftupp’s appeal in the health sciences segment. Liftupp previously secured $635,000 in capital from EU-backed regional VC firm North West Fund in 2015. North West Fund invested through its Digital & Creative fund managed by AXM Venture Capital. Anthony Hollander, pro-vice-chancellor for research and impact at University of Liverpool, said: “Liftupp is an excellent example as to how universities can transfer their research and teaching activities into tangible products, for the benefit of society.” Sebastian Vos, CEO of ExamSoft, added: “Health sciences education programs need unique tools that fit the specific challenges that they face. The Liftupp products are designed with these challenges in mind, and we are excited to find new ways to support these clients. “We also will look to find ways to enhance these technologies through ExamSoft’s offering to serve an even wider variety of clients”
