UK’s Ian McClure has been promoted to associate vice-president for research, innovation and economic impact, having previously been executive director of the tech transfer office.

Ian McClure, executive director of University of Kentucky (UK)’s Office of Technology Commercialisation (OTC), has been promoted to associate vice-president for research, innovation and economic impact. The new position will increase his responsibilities to lead UK Research’s efforts, including research translation, returns on intellectual property, grant funding, expanding industry and other partnerships, and developing innovate approaches to support near-stage research. At OTC, McClure’s responsibilities had included overseeing the university’s innovation, intellectual property and spinout portfolios. He joined the office in 2016 and grew its headcount from three to 25, and pushes UK’s commercialisation and entrepreneurship levels to record heights. His accolades outside of UK include being chair-elect of Autm and being a co-founder of Kentucky Commercialization Ventures, a state-funded initiative to support universities in Kentucky that do not have dedicated tech transfer resources. Taunya Philips has meanwhile been appointed director of OTC. She had previously been senior associate director for New Ventures and Alliances, and has been with OTC since 2016, having originally joined UK as a lecturer in mechanical engineering in 1999. – Image courtesy of LinkedIn
