TU Delft and Imperial-founded genetic data analytics software provider BlueBee has been picked up after raising at least $13.5m of funding.

Genomic sequencing technology provider Illumina acquired Netherlands-based genetic data analytics software provider BlueBee on Wednesday, providing exits to joint founders Delft University of Technology and Imperial College London. Founded in 2011, BlueBee has developed data analytics software that enables diagnostic and research testing laboratories to process the results of DNA sequencing and conduct business analytics in order to streamline their operational efficiency. Illumina will now augment its cloud-based software with BlueBee’s products, which include an analytics management product called BlueFlow and a suite of data science and machine learning tools. BlueBee secured $11.6m of series A funding from a consortium featuring Capricorn ICT Arkiv, Korys and Biover II in March 2016. It had already raised $1.9m of seed funding in 2015 from investment firm Buysse & Partners and existing investor Delft University of Technology. Susan Tousi, senior vice-president of product development at Illumina, said: “We are thrilled to welcome the BlueBee team to Illumina, and excited by the promise of delivering a streamlined way for users to analyse, explore and securely manage large scale genomics data.”
