The portfolio’s fair value rose by 21% and pre-tax profits are up 45% in the first half of Frontier IP’s fiscal year.

Frontier IP, the UK-based commercialisation firm, has released its results for the first half of the financial year covering the period of July to December 2020.
The fair value of its portfolio rose by 21% to £23.4m ($32.5m), up from £19.4m at the end of June 2020. Unrealised profit on the revaluation of investments increased by 33% to £4m, while pre-tax profits grew 45% to £3m.
The firm also completed an oversubscribed equity placement that attracted £2.2m net of expenses in July 2020.
Frontier IP highlighted several portfolio companies that raised funding in the six months, including Cambridge Raman Imaging, Elute Intelligence and Fieldwork Robotics.
The firm also highlighted the $100m series C round secured by Dundee spinout Exscientia outside the period. Frontier IP, which has a base in Portugal, said it was also gaining traction in that country.
Frontier IP also increased its headcount during the period, hiring Mark Rosten as software commercialisation director and Darren White as director of corporate relationships.
