Conversational marketing tool developer Eyelevel.ai graduated from UC Berkeley’s SkyDeck in 2018 and has now secured a follow-on investment from the accelerator.

US-based conversational marketing tool developer Eyelevel.ai closed a $2m seed round backed by University of California (UC) Berkeley’s SkyDeck accelerator on Thursday. The round was led by VC firm Birchmere Ventures with participation from UC Berkeley alumni venture fund Strawberry Creek Ventures and Inspiration Ventures. Eyelevel.ai, which graduated from SkyDeck in 2018, runs a conversational marketing system that relies on natural language processing to build contextual advertisements tailored to individual users from within instant chat and digital assistant applications. The ads are designed to imitate personal recommendations that may have been made by a friend. Eyelevel.ai currently has 45 clients and works with an ad publishing network of more than 1,700 chat applications. Eyelevel.ai recently appointed Mike Werner, former vice-president at electronics e-commerce company Rakuten, to lead the business as its president. SkyDeck was described as a follow-on investor in the seed round, however details of its original contribution could not be ascertained. Werner said: “After a couple months meeting with the team, I made the move without hesitation. Eyelevel does something that no other ad tech or marketing platform can do, easily connect brands with consumers in messaging, chat and conversational applications.”
