The university has placed its research and innovation operation under the Drexel Applied Innovation banner, led by Shintaro Kaido.
Drexel University has restructured its research and innovation department after achieving R1 research status in the Carnegie classification of higher education institutions.
The university’s Office of Corporate Relations and Economic Development has rebranded as Drexel Applied Innovation, which comprises the Office of Technology Commercialization, in addition to Drexel Ventures, a subsidiary which straddles tech transfer and startup support services.
Drexel Applied Innovation will be helmed by Shintaro Kaido, vice-provost and chief innovation officer, who will report to Aleister Saunders, named executive vice-provost for research and innovation as part of the reshuffle.
Kaido joined Drexel as managing director of venture commercialisation 2014, a role he has departed following the reorganisation.
The pair will undertake extensive planning over coming months in a bid to coordinate Drexel’s research and innovation services.
