MIT has appointed its Apollo Program professor of astronautics Dava Newman to direct the Media Lab research centre.

Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) has appointed Dava Newman, its Apollo Program professor of astronautics, as director of its research centre MIT Media Lab.
Newman will join MIT Media Lab on July 1, 2021.
She is expected to lend cross-discipline perspective accrued throughout more than 27 years with MIT, having first joined the university’s faculty in 1993.
In addition to her professorial roles, Newman was a principal investigator on four US exploratory space missions.
She is a director at MIT’s Technology and Policy programme and also holds an appointment at Harvard-MIT Health, Sciences and Technology, an MIT research collaboration with Harvard University.
Newman said: “Leading the legendary Media Lab is a dream for me, and I can’t wait to help write the next chapter of this uniquely creative, impactful, compassionate community.”
