Trinity College Dublin spinout Danalto has been backed by the spinout-focused Atlantic Bridge University Bridge Fund and Enterprise Ireland.

Danalto, an Ireland-based internet-of-things (IoT) technology spinout of Trinity College Dublin (TCD), has received €750,000 ($857,000) in a seed round backed by spinout-focused vehicle Atlantic Bridge University Bridge Fund. Government-owned enterprise support agency Enterprise Ireland also took part in the round, through its High Potential Start-up Programme. Danalto has also raised money from the state-owned Disruptive Technologies Innovation Fund, though it is unclear whether it consisted of grant or equity funding. Founded in 2017, Danalto is working on energy-efficient sensor components for IoT networks. The sensors utilise low power wide area network technology: a protocol facilitating long-range communications between connected nodes that possess little bandwidth. The company intends to accumulate a portfolio of low-energy IoT products primarily catered to enterprises and cities in partnership with several unnamed research centres and universities. The seed funding will go to growing Danalto’s headcount in engineering, sales and customer support, in addition to international expansion. The company has already secured business, supplying a Dublin municipal initiative that will install flood-warning sensors in the city.
