Every day, Global University Venturing rounds up the smaller investments from across the university innovation ecosystem in its deal net.

Colossal, a US-based bioscience and genetics company focused on bringing back extinct animals, launched out of Harvard University yesterday with $15m in seed funding led by Thomas Tull. The round also included Breyer Capital, Draper Associates, Animal Capital, At One Ventures, Jazz Ventures, Bold Capital, Global Space Ventures, Climate Capital, Winklevoss Capital, Liquid2 Ventures, Capital Factory and First Light Capital, as well as private investors Tony Robbins and Jeff Wilke. Colossal’s initial focus will be on the woolly mammoth, with hopes that resurrecting the extinct mammal will revitalise the Arctic grasslands. Colossal has inked a sponsored research agreement with the lab of its co-founder, George Church, at Harvard Medical School.
