Every day, Global University Venturing rounds up the smaller investments from across the university innovation ecosystem in its deal net.

Asensei, a US-based developer of connected sports coaching technology developer, has completed a $2.2m seed round featuring Northwestern University. Venture capital firm KB Partners led the round, which included private investor Alex Alimanestianu and former NFL professionals Scotty McKnight and Mark Sanchez. The company said it has now raised a total of $5.1m in funding since it was founded in 2014 and identified KB Partners as an existing investor.
Angel syndicate Tricapital led a £1.1m ($1.5m) funding round today for Aveni, the UK-headquartered developer of a voice-based analytics platform, that included University of Edinburgh’s VC arm, Old College Capital. The round was filled out by Scottish Enterprise’s Growth Investments vehicle and private investment group Wallace Equity. Company co-founder Dr Lexi Birch is a senior research fellow at University of Edinburgh while Barry Haddow, its head of natural language processing, is a researcher in its School of Informatics.
