Aquitaine Science Transfert's new incubator will provide $22,600 of initial funding to help build out nascent deep tech projects.

Satt Aquitaine Science Transfert, the tech transfer office for the French southwestern region of Aquitaine, launched a deep tech incubator called Chrysa-Link yesterday with €1.5m ($1.7m) of state funding.
Nouvelle-Aquitaine’s regional council and the national government-run General Secretariat for Investment supplied the capital, under the supervision of public investment bank Bpifrance.
The cheque is expected to last two years, with projects to be matured over 18 to 21 months.
Each project will be funded to the tune of €20,000 ($22,600) to cover initiation costs with the potential for follow-on investment from Aquitaine Science Transfert.
Chrysa-Link is currently maturing five spinouts as well as at least 10 lab projects, some inherited from Aquitaine Science Transfert’s previous incubator.
The spinouts were identified as:

  • Treefrog Therapeutics, a stem cell therapy developer whose €7m ($7.8m) series A round featured Aquitaine Science Transfert in May 2019;
  • Tricky, creators of a gamified health risk training based on escape room-like activities;
  • Nurea, a company developing software-based aids for vascular surgery;
  • Bythewave, which focuses on analytics products for surfboarding; and
  • Certis Therapeutics, providers of minimally-invasive MRI imaging for drug programs targeting cardiological, oncological and neurological diseases.
