MIT spinout Copious Imaging has been acquired by Anduril Industries for an undisclosed amount.

Copious Imaging, a US-based motion imaging systems spinout of Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), was acquired by defence company Anduril Industries for an undisclosed sum at the end of last month. Founded in 2017, Copious Imaging’s wide-area infrared sensing with persistence technology is set to complement the artificial intelligence-assisted detection and tracking technology Anduril already markets to counter unmanned aircraft systems. Copious’ technology has also been under development for use in autonomous systems. The spinout does not appear to have disclosed any equity funding predating the acquisition. Bill Ross, chief executive of Copious Imaging, said: “Joining forces with Anduril will help get our technology out to the field faster and at greater scale, safeguarding our critical infrastructure and protecting our security forces to make America and its allies safer. “It is a great fit because Anduril and Copious Imaging share a common mission to engineer the most advanced AI-enabled sensing technology for the United States Department of Defense. Together, we can pursue that mission even more effectively.”
