Hong Kong X Technology Fund has backed a $15.4m funding round for robotics technology developer AgileX.

Hong Kong X Technology Fund, a vehicle affiliated with professors from University of Hong Kong and Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, has participated in a RMB100m ($15.4m) series A round for China-based robotics chassis provider AgileX Robotics. Venture capital firms Sequoia Capital China and 5Y Capital also invested in the round, as did VC fund Vertex Ventures China. The round closed last month but was only revealed this week. Founded in 2016, AgileX has developed a range of robot chassis for use in technology such as unmanned ground vehicles and indoor autonomous ground vehicles. Its products have been used in sectors including autonomous driving, agriculture management and geographic surveying. AgileX Robotics founder and CEO Jidong Wei said the investment would accelerate the development of its outdoor, low-speed, autonomous driving robotics technology. Legend Star, an investment arm of conglomerate Legend Holdings, and Xbotpark Fund provided an undisclosed amount of angel funding for AgileX in 2016.
